What is Epicsplosion.com?
In short it's a "Choose your own adventure" story, using the internet as a medium. It can be called a book, a webcomic or even a game as elements of all these are present. Epicsplosion is not bound by a particular genre or even a style of writing. Any story at all that occurs to me can, and likely will, be integrated into the story tree.
What is an Action Caption?
It's basically just like a regular caption only more marketable. Each page (with a few infuriating exceptions I'm sure) will have a block of expository text below where I will offload any plot stuff and lame attempts
at humor. These captions are best read after one has already viewed the associated image, animated GIF, or flash animation. However, since the animation can sometimes take a while to load I have devised the
ingenious Action Caption Box (it's a box now) to keep the reader from accidentally glancing down and revealing to himself any spoilers nested therein.
Are there any other main characters?
There are all manner of characters driving each 'Splosion, however you will only play (with few exceptions) as the main character.
How do you create the stories?
I have many of them fleshed out in my mind ahead of time, including how and where I will pin them to the story tree. When it comes to execution it's just a matter of a writing a complete story and dog-earing certain decision pages then going back and following those decision branches to their ultimate ends or a point when they branch out even further.
Is there an ending?
Not in the strictest sense. If a reader comes to a page where the story ends you still have the option to start over go back to a decision page and choose differently.
Chances are if you do this enough you will find yourself in the middle of a completely different story arch. Aside from that though there is an Easter egg ending that can be considered the
finale to the story but you won't find out how to get there from me.:)
How come the story I'm reading hasn't been updated lately?
The short answer is I simply have not gotten around to it yet. At any given time I may be working on up to three different story branches and the duties involved are pretty grueling. I can only suggest that you try browsing for another story arch or visit the forum to see what other readers have found.
What tools do you use to create Epicsplosion?
Everything is done is Photoshop. I complete a panel and fully color it then convert it to grayscale because I like the look and also because it brings down the file size some.
I died! What do I do?
Well that's up to you, but I'll bet you know what NOT to do now, don't you?
Do you plan to put an Epicsplosion book together?
That would be awesome. I would love to do one enormous volume but chances are that it would contain so many pages that no printer would touch it. I guess what
I'm saying is I haven't thought that far ahead. I appreciate your bring that ugly little truth to light, though.
